Gwangjin-gu Operates 'Our Neighborhood Pet Foster Home' for Vulnerable Groups

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is providing support for the usage fees of the ‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Facility’ for socially vulnerable groups who own pets.

‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Facility’ is a boarding service for vulnerable groups who must temporarily leave their pets due to unavoidable reasons. It offers free care services for up to 10 days annually per one dog or cat.

The 10 days can be used in multiple installments. In special cases such as long-term hospitalization, the period can be extended up to 50 days. Additionally, transportation costs for pets are provided for single-person households or disabled individuals with mobility difficulties.

The eligible recipients are basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, and single-parent families registered as residents in Gwangjin-gu. Applications can be made by visiting a local pet boarding facility and submitting the required documents. However, dogs must be registered to qualify.

There are three designated pet boarding facilities in the district: ‘Popo Daycare (Jayang-ro 65)’, ‘Nabiya (Ttukseom-ro 670)’, and ‘Royal Dog & Cat Medical Center (Neungdong-ro 49)’. Since the boarding conditions vary by facility, it is recommended to inquire in advance before visiting.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We hope residents can entrust their pets without financial burden when they need to leave them temporarily,” and added, “We will do our best to improve animal welfare so that no one has to give up raising pets due to cost issues.”
