April 5th, 4 PM Launch Ceremony... Total 90 New Media Members in Citizen Reporter Group
Applicants Include Influencers with Over 10,000 Followers and Foreigners from 8 Countries
Busan City has completed the selection of the citizen reporter group '2024 Busan City New Media Members,' who will promote Busan through the perspectives and sensibilities of Busan citizens, and will hold an inauguration ceremony at 4 p.m. on the 5th in the city hall auditorium.
This year, the New Media Members saw a total of 431 applicants, more than 100 more than last year, recording a competition rate of about 4.8 to 1. Accordingly, the city increased the number of recruits by 10 from the original plan (80) and selected a total of 90 New Media Members.
The selected New Media Members are diverse, ranging from influencers with more than 10,000 followers to applicants who have won various contests and possess professional expertise.
In particular, foreigners from a total of eight countries including Taiwan, Indonesia, El Salvador, Uzbekistan, and Russia were also selected, enabling them to introduce the charm of Busan through the production of global promotional content for key city policies such as 'a city easy to speak English' and 'global hub city,' as well as support for foreign language translation.
This year’s New Media Members include Mr. Kim Byung-hyun, who was active in the reels field last year, notably changing his activity area to blogging, drawing attention.
He said, “The experience of having content I personally created used on Busan City’s official social media (SNS) accounts, achieving a high view count of 3.76 million, gave me confidence to participate in the New Media Members activities,” adding, “While working last year, I felt pride in the various new charms and policies of Busan I came to know, which motivated me to apply again this year in a new field (blogging).”
Also among this year’s New Media Members is Cha Ji-yeon, known as 'Sonttami,' a young person who settled in Busan and realized their dreams, winner of the '2023 Godsaenglimpic,' and an influencer with over 10,000 followers. She expressed her ambition, saying, “I will share various support policies for Busan through short-form videos and Insta-toons.”
Furthermore, Japanese international student Murakami Yukari, who chose to study in Busan deeply fascinated by the city’s major policies and tourism projects, showed active enthusiasm for New Media Members activities, stating, “I want to promote Busan, one of Asia’s top tourist cities, more widely to the world and contribute to enhancing Busan’s brand value.”
The inauguration ceremony will be held in two parts: the first part will include congratulatory speeches and the awarding of appointment letters, and the second part will cover guidance on New Media Members activities and lectures.
To strengthen the capabilities of the New Media Members, the lecture will be conducted by Kim Min-ju, an adjunct professor at Busan Institute of Science and Technology, on the topic of Korean social media (K-SNS) trends, focusing on digital marketing methods using the recently popular 'short-form' social media (SNS) promotion techniques.
Starting with this inauguration ceremony, the New Media Members will take the lead in promoting the city’s future vision projects, various events, and tourism resources to citizens and the world through diverse new media platforms until December 31.
After the activities conclude, outstanding participants will be awarded certificates signed by the Mayor of Busan.
Kim Jae-hak, the city spokesperson, stated, “We expect that this year’s New Media Members will play a significant role in conveying Busan’s new news and diverse charms to the world with various perspectives and sensibilities toward Busan, thereby raising international recognition.”
