Guro-gu Approves Stream Usage Permit for Anyangcheon Dog Playground

Approximately 2,600㎡ Plaza Under Gocheok Bridge... Scheduled for Completion in the Second Half of the Year

Guro-gu Approves Stream Usage Permit for Anyangcheon Dog Playground

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) has completed preliminary preparations for the creation of a dog park along the Anyangcheon Stream and will begin full-scale construction in the first half of this year.

In December of last year, the district applied to the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office for a river occupancy permit to establish the Anyangcheon dog park and received final approval on February 19. With this, Guro-gu has completed the blueprint for becoming a pet-friendly city.

The dog park will be located at the plaza beneath Gocheokgyo Bridge along Anyangcheon Stream in the Guro-dong 621-8 area of Guro-gu.

The district plans to build a dog park of approximately 2,600 square meters (about 800 pyeong) aiming for completion in the second half of this year. This will be the largest dog park among those in Seoul.

The park will provide a sufficiently wide activity space where dogs can run and play with their owners without leashes, and will include convenience facilities such as drinking fountains, shade structures, waste disposal bins, urinals, and CCTV to enhance user convenience.

The budget includes 150 million KRW from the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s 2023 support project for dog park creation in autonomous districts, 150 million KRW secured through selection in the Korea Airports Corporation’s aircraft noise countermeasure area resident support project, and a total of 600 million KRW including district funds.

Before starting the project last year, the district conducted online and offline surveys with 1,000 pet owners and non-pet owners to broadly gather opinions on the dog park creation, and held project briefing sessions and resident meetings to reflect the voices of local residents.

A Guro-gu official stated, “Creating a ‘dog park’ where dogs and their owners can safely and enjoyably engage is the first step for Guro-gu to become a pet-friendly city,” and added, “We will strive to ensure the project proceeds without any setbacks.”
