Geumcheon-gu Announces New City Brand... 'Good City Geumcheon'

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced the unveiling of the city brand (BI) "Good City GeumCheon," symbolizing the future-oriented and progressive new changes of Geumcheon.


The district aimed to mark 2025, the 30th anniversary of its establishment, as a starting point for new changes by improving its external image and enhancing urban competitiveness through the development of a new city brand.


The city brand development began with an urban image perception survey in October 2022. After gathering opinions from residents and workers in Geumcheon-gu and conducting surveys, the city brand name was finalized in September last year. Following an in-depth design process to visualize the brand’s identity and direction, the final version was completed in February this year.


The district made great efforts to collect diverse opinions and increase residents’ interest during the brand development process.


During the development period, the district communicated with 4,085 residents and local workers to enhance transparency and empathy in deciding the city brand. In March last year, a city brand development task force consisting of 23 members, including experts, residents, and public officials, was formed and operated. Resident participation workshops and opinion collection events were held, and surveys were conducted targeting G-Valley workers.


Additionally, a professional firm was commissioned to conduct big data analysis to systematically and professionally capture Geumcheon-gu’s unique image in the city brand.


The new city brand, "Good City GeumCheon," expresses the future-oriented and developing Geumcheon-gu with the concise and clear theme that "a good city is Geumcheon."


From a design perspective, the alphabets 'G' and 'C' appearing simultaneously in "Good City" and "GeumCheon" incorporate the Korean initials of Geumcheon, ‘ㄱ’ and ‘ㅊ’, respectively. The harmonious blend of English and Korean enhances its usability abroad.


Moreover, the district’s symbolic blue color and the pink of the azalea, the district’s symbolic flower, are combined to convey a message of harmonious unity between the district’s bright future (G-Valley, advanced industry development) and the resident community.

The developed city brand will be used in projects promoted by the district, promotional sculptures, and public facilities. Promotional videos will be produced and posted on websites, YouTube, and other media, and various souvenirs (goods) will be created to promote the brand at resident participation events.


Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Ahead of the 30th anniversary of the district’s establishment next year, we created the city brand ‘Good City GeumCheon’ with the spirit of a new leap forward. We hope for the residents’ great interest in the new city brand and will do our best to make Geumcheon even better.”
