Geumcheon-gu Operates 'Pet Culture Class'...Including Dog Training and Correction Education

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will operate the "Pet Culture Classroom" from March 21 to May for pet owners and local elementary school students to foster a mature pet culture.

The Pet Culture Classroom was established to prevent conflicts between neighbors caused by pets and to raise awareness of the importance of life among elementary school students.

The district runs "Neighborhood Walk with Dogs," which covers pet etiquette, behavior correction, and walking education, and "Dahamgae Sojungha," a life respect education program for elementary students.

"Neighborhood Walk with Dogs" consists of theoretical education such as ▲ pet etiquette ▲ urban walking theory ▲ one-on-one behavior correction counseling, and practical training such as ▲ urban walking practice ▲ real walking considering non-pet owners.

To accommodate working people, the program is held on Thursday evenings (6?8 p.m.) and Saturday afternoons (2?4 p.m.).

The number of participants is 15 per session, with a total of 3 sessions and 45 participants. The training locations are Siheung 2-dong Community Center Village Vitality Center (Thursday, theory) and Geumnarae Central Park (Saturday, practice).

At the completion ceremony, dog behavior correction expert Professor Lee Woong-jong will personally award certificates and conduct Q&A and walking education.

Households raising registered pets in the area can apply, except for dangerous dogs. Applications can be made online through the Geumcheon-gu Office website notification window or by visiting the district's Regional Economy Division, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition, in May, "Dahamgae Sojungha," a pet dog interaction activity, will be held for first and second graders at Sinheung Elementary School. Students will have time to touch, hug, and feel dogs directly, learning the importance of life and cultivating proper character.

Other projects to promote a healthy pet culture include ▲ installation of a permanent dog playground (July) ▲ mobile dog playgrounds (scheduled for April, May, and September) ▲ Pet Day festival (October).

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope the Pet Culture Classroom will help resolve conflicts between pet owners and non-pet owners," and added, "We will promote various animal welfare projects to make Geumcheon-gu a place where people and animals are happy together."
