Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a "Relay Tree Planting" event with residents on the 13th to celebrate the 79th Arbor Day.
Considering the earlier blooming period due to climate change, the district advanced the Arbor Day event and plans to promote the importance of tree planting to residents through the event, highlighting effects such as reducing fine dust and greenhouse gases.
This event will plant trees in a relay format divided into four zones to expand green spaces in the area and enable easy and convenient participation for residents.
Starting at 10 a.m. on March 13 at Anyangcheon (Omokgyo to Mokdonggyo), the event will proceed in order at Singil Neighborhood Park (80-gil 8, Dorim-ro), Singil 9 District Neighborhood Park (around 4969-8, Singil-dong), and Daerim 3-dong Green Area (638-1, Daerim-dong).
This year, approximately 7,000 trees and shrubs, including Bokjagi trees, Cornus, and Cornelian cherry trees, as well as about 2,000 herbaceous plants such as hydrangeas, will be planted.
In particular, the district plans to hold a "My Tree Ownership" event this year. Commemorative tree planting ceremonies will be held to celebrate special days such as children's birthdays and wedding anniversaries, providing residents with the opportunity to plant their own tree and create special and precious memories.
Participants will be selected through story submissions, and anyone in the community can apply. The application period is until the 8th, and a total of 30 teams, including individuals, groups, and organizations, will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis.
To apply, applicants must submit their name, contact information, number of participants, and a story within 200 characters via email to the person in charge. Winners will be notified individually by text message on March 11. Detailed information can be found on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website under the "Our District News" bulletin board.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "I ask for active participation in this event so that the trees nurtured directly by residents can grow and create lush resting places even in Yeongdeungpo, which lacks mountains." He added, "We will continue to hold various events in response to climate change to make Yeongdeungpo a clean-air and livable district."
