Condition of Military Officers' Quarters Occupied This Year 'Shocking'... "It's Strange That the Imo Rebellion Didn't Occur"

30% of Single-Person Housing Over 30 Years Old

The military officers' dormitory, covered in mold, has been revealed, sparking controversy. This was shared on the Facebook page 'Delivered on behalf of the Army Training Center' on the 4th, under the post titled 'Condition of the single officers' dormitory occupied in 2024.'

'Delivered on behalf of the Army Training Center' is a military-related reporting channel. The revealed dormitory shows wallpaper peeling off due to moisture and missing in places. The sink is also worn out, showing signs of age.

Comments expressed anger over providing poor-quality dormitories to military officers. Reactions included, "It's strange that the Imo Incident hasn't happened again," and "Who would want to be an officer under these conditions?"

"Even though I clean as soon as mold appears while raising a baby, it keeps coming back. I remember having to choose between a leaking house or one with mold when I first moved in," shared a married officer, indicating that their situation is no different.

There were also claims that even worse dormitories exist. "The room has clean wallpaper and flooring. By military standards, it's A-grade," "Having a kitchen and laundry room is a luxury. In Gangwon-do, everything is shared," and "It was worse than that, so I just rented a monthly apartment," were among the shared experiences.

According to the Ministry of National Defense's audit report from October last year, about 30% of single officers' dormitories were built over 30 years ago, and 8.8% are more than 40 years old. The officers' dormitories, operated as double occupancy rooms, are equally poor, with about 25% having an area less than 5.5 pyeong (approximately 18.2 square meters), indicating an urgent need for improvement.
