Samsung Seoul Hospital Ranks 34th, Severance 40th
Asan Social Welfare Foundation (Chairman Chung Mong-joon) Seoul Asan Medical Center ranked 22nd in the world in a hospital evaluation conducted by the American news weekly Newsweek.
On the 4th, Seoul Asan Medical Center announced that it ranked 22nd in the world in the 'World's Best Hospitals 2024' ranking released on Newsweek's official website, achieving the highest ranking among domestic hospitals. This is a rise of 7 places compared to last year, and Seoul Asan Medical Center has recorded the highest ranking among domestic hospitals for six consecutive years.
Newsweek, together with the global research firm Statista, selected 250 excellent hospitals out of more than 2,400 hospitals worldwide based on evaluations from 85,000 medical professionals including doctors, healthcare experts, and hospital administrators from 30 countries. The evaluation criteria included online survey results (45%), medical performance indicators (35.25%), patient satisfaction surveys (16.25%), and whether patient health self-assessments were conducted (3.5%).
The top hospital in the world in this survey was the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, followed by Cleveland Clinic (USA), Toronto General Hospital (Canada), Johns Hopkins Hospital (USA), and Massachusetts General Hospital (USA) ranking 2nd to 5th respectively. The 6th to 10th places were mostly European hospitals: Charit? University Hospital in Berlin, Germany (6th), Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden (7th), Piti?-Salp?tri?re University Hospital in France (8th), Sheba Medical Center in Israel (9th), and University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland (10th).
For domestic hospitals, evaluations from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, and drug appropriateness, as well as patient experience evaluations regarding doctors, nurses, and hospital environment were reflected in the assessment. As a result, besides Seoul Asan Medical Center (22nd), six hospitals including Samsung Medical Center (34th), Severance Hospital (40th), Seoul National University Hospital (43rd), Bundang Seoul National University Hospital (81st), and Gangnam Severance Hospital (94th) ranked within the top 100 worldwide. Hospitals ranked between 100th and 250th included Seoul St. Mary's Hospital (104th), Ajou University Hospital (120th), Inha University Hospital (148th), Kangbuk Samsung Hospital (152nd), Korea University Anam Hospital (160th), Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital (170th), Kyung Hee University Hospital (208th), Chung-Ang University Hospital (214th), Konkuk University Hospital (222nd), Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (225th), and Daegu Catholic University Hospital (235th).
Seoul Asan Medical Center was also selected as the top domestic hospital in six clinical fields?endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery?in Newsweek's 'World's Best Hospitals by Clinical Specialty 2024' evaluation announced in the second half of last year. In the global rankings, it placed 3rd in endocrinology, 4th in urology, 5th in gastroenterology, 6th in cancer, and 8th in neurology.
