Mr. A is accused of calling 112 twice around 3 a.m. on October 19 last year in a state of extreme intoxication, saying "I want to make an extreme choice." The police repeatedly received absurd reports such as "I drank alcohol but want to drive. Please catch me. My car is a sports car, so you won't be able to catch me." The police dispatched 22 patrol cars to pursue Mr. A and caught him in a parking lot in Yuseong-gu after about an hour and 30 minutes.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A’s license had been canceled in the past due to drunk driving. Despite the cancellation, he was caught driving about 30 km within Daejeon city in a state of extreme intoxication with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.1% until just before being caught. After being apprehended by the police, he reportedly stated that he wanted to make an extreme choice due to a conflict with his girlfriend. The police said, "We applied additional charges for obstructing the normal operation of the 112 emergency call dispatch system and sent him to prosecution in custody," adding, "We will continue to strictly respond to false reports to ensure prompt dispatch operations."
