Significant Improvement in Donor Recognition for Development Fund
From Establishing Park Cemeteries to Care from Life to Afterlife
Suncheon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that it will significantly improve the treatment of development fund donors.
With Suncheon National University being selected as the first ‘Glocal University 30’ in the Jeonnam region, the strategy is to turn the increased public interest into an expansion of development fund attraction.
Immediately within this month, a revised plan regarding donor treatment will be prepared, passed through the board of directors of the Suncheon National University Development Support Foundation, and implemented starting this month.
Led by President Lee Byung-woon, on-site efforts to secure development funds will also be increased.
They will directly visit the top 100 companies based in the Honam region to inform them about the university’s current situation and share the Glocal project policies.
The aim is to connect the talent cultivation processes and necessities of the Glocal University project by field with companies to enhance the effectiveness of the industry-academia-research collaboration.
Additionally, Suncheon National University plans to hold the annual ‘SCNU Development Fund Fundraising Night’ event, inviting donors, alumni, prominent local figures, and businesspeople to foster a culture of donation within the local community.
Currently, Suncheon National University has established and is implementing various guidelines for donor treatment.
Issuance of donation receipts and tax benefits are standard, and depending on the donation amount, full-body statues, commemorative towers, and merit plaques are erected to be permanently recorded.
A notable treatment policy is the establishment of the ‘Honors Club’.
This year, the ‘Honors Club’ was established for high-value individual donors contributing 1 billion KRW or more, with dedicated foundation staff providing special management and support to members.
For Honors Club members, a donor cemetery park will be constructed on the school grounds, and plans for ‘posthumous care services for high-value donors’ (such as tree burials and ancestral rites) are also under consideration.
Since 1935, starting with the special donation from pioneer Kim Jong-ik, Suncheon National University has continuously developed by gathering the dedication of philanthropists to build the ivory tower.
Stories of angels who painted beautiful lives overflow in Suncheon City.
Seo Jeong-hyun, director of the Development Support Foundation, donated 100.75 million KRW to Suncheon National University, which he saved by putting aside 10,000 KRW daily for 20 years (1980?1999).
This donation was used to support students who are socially disadvantaged as child heads of households, and it still warms the hearts of Suncheon citizens.
The late lawyer Park Kwan-soo donated 14,000 pyeong (approximately 46,280 square meters) of land worth about 500 million KRW in 2003, laying the foundation for nurturing future scholars.
Chairman Lee Joong-geun of Booyoung Group built the academic hall ‘Ujeongwon’ (currently a dormitory) worth 2.5 billion KRW, where talents from Suncheon are nurturing their dreams.
Over time, the culture of donation by numerous educators and businesspeople has given birth to a comprehensive university in name and reality.
Recently, Suncheon National University achieved the distinction of being the first university in the Jeonnam region to be selected as one of the ‘Glocal University 30,’ raising the hopes and pride of citizens.
Suncheon National University attributes the success of the Glocal University project to the citizens and businesspeople and is accelerating project implementation to brighten the region’s future.
President Lee Byung-woon stated, “We plan to record and honor the lives of anonymous donors who have continued the culture of giving for over 90 years, as well as those who have devoted tens of billions of KRW in real estate and funds to talent cultivation,” adding, “To leave the Glocal University project as a regional legacy, we will definitely achieve this year’s goal of 5 billion KRW.”
