Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will continue to implement the ‘Eunpyeong-gu Residents Bicycle Insurance,’ which started in 2022, to promote traffic safety and the use of bicycles among residents.

The coverage period for the ‘2024 Eunpyeong-gu Residents Bicycle Insurance’ is from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025.

All residents registered in Eunpyeong-gu are automatically enrolled in the bicycle insurance without any separate subscription procedures or insurance premium payments. Registered foreign residents are also included. This year, approximately 466,000 residents are expected to benefit from the insurance.

The insurance covers accidents that occur while directly riding or being on a bicycle, as well as sudden and accidental external injuries caused by bicycles while walking or passing on the road. Benefits are available nationwide regardless of the accident location, as long as it occurs within South Korea.

Coverage ranges from 200,000 KRW to a maximum of 30 million KRW, depending on the category.

The seven main coverage items include ▲Hospitalization consolation money of 200,000 KRW for hospitalization of 6 days or more ▲Diagnosis consolation money ranging from 300,000 KRW to 700,000 KRW for diagnoses lasting from 4 to 8 weeks or more ▲Bicycle accident death benefit of 10 million KRW, excluding those under 15 years old ▲Permanent disability coverage up to 10 million KRW ▲Fines coverage up to 20 million KRW, excluding those under 14 years old ▲Attorney fees coverage up to 2 million KRW, excluding those under 14 years old ▲Traffic accident handling support fund up to 30 million KRW, excluding those under 14 years old.

Insurance claims can be made up to 3 years from the date of the accident, and coverage can be received concurrently with personal insurance depending on the coverage item. To file a claim, prepare the insurance claim form and supporting documents and apply by phone to the DB Insurance Bicycle Insurance Reception Center.
