Cho Kuk, former Minister of Justice, who was appointed as the leader of the Jokuk Innovation Party, said on the 3rd, "I can endure personal humiliation and disgrace, but I can no longer stand by as the Yoon Seok-yeol administration backtracks on the values of the democratic republic that were protected with blood and sweat."
On the same day, Cho was unanimously appointed as the party leader by over 2,000 party members at the Jokuk Innovation Party Central Party Founding Convention held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province.
In his acceptance speech, Cho said, "I have been trapped in an endless hell for the past five years. I had to endure the situation where my entire family was slaughtered, feeling as if my flesh was being torn apart."
He added, "The river we must cross now is not the River of the Fatherland, but the ‘River of Yoon Seok-yeol’ and the ‘River of Prosecutorial Dictatorship.’ The Jokuk Innovation Party will cross the ‘Yoon Seok-yeol River’ covered in filth, put an early end to the prosecutorial dictatorship, and present visions and policies to build a new fatherland."
Cho also pointed out, "All that President Yoon Seok-yeol has done since taking office is political revenge. The prosecution and the Board of Audit and Inspection, which should maintain political neutrality, have become the shock troops of the administration. There is no future for the Republic of Korea as it stands."
He bowed his head and said, "As the person responsible for prosecutorial reform under the Moon Jae-in administration, I once again apologize to the people for my failure to prevent the birth of a prosecutorial republic."
He said, "I will fully bear the criticism, blame, and reproach directed at me," and added, "I believe I have been given the fate to urgently end the prosecutorial dictatorship of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration with a spirit of solving the problem I caused."
Furthermore, he said, "If the Jokuk Innovation Party creates a wind, the people will create a typhoon of judgment," and urged, "Let us become the hottest green light and burn down the prosecutorial dictatorship."
