Gyeonggi Office of Education Expands Compensation for Teacher Rights Violations... Consolation Payments for Teacher Violence Victims, etc.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is expanding the Teacher Protection Mutual Aid (formerly Teacher Liability Insurance) program to protect teachers' legitimate educational activities from infringement.


The Office of Education announced on the 3rd that starting this year, it will implement various support projects so that teachers can focus on educational activities with peace of mind, including ▲guaranteeing teachers' legal liability coverage ▲providing consolation payments in cases of violence and serious crimes ▲covering teacher litigation costs and defamation consolation payments ▲advance payment of attorney fees ▲compensation for damaged teacher property ▲and security services for teachers facing personal threats.

In particular, the Office of Education has changed the payment of attorney fees from post-payment to advance payment and decided to provide consolation payments for teachers who suffer violence or serious crimes.

The consolation payment applies when a teacher engaged in educational activities suffers physical injury due to physical violence, death caused by a serious crime, or physical harm.


Lee Ji-myeong, Director of the Life and Character Education Division at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated, "This teacher protection mutual aid program is part of the 'Comprehensive Measures to Strengthen Protection of Educational Activities' announced last August," adding, "Through these improvements, we will more thoroughly guarantee teachers' legitimate educational activities."


Meanwhile, the improvements to the teacher protection mutual aid program have been applied since the 1st of this month, and the target includes teachers (including fixed-term teachers) at national, public, and private kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, special, various schools, and accredited lifelong education institutions.
