In the Era of 100 Years, Shall We Try Joining the 'Yangcheon-gu Senior Choir'?

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it is operating the Yangcheon-gu Silver Choir to promote cultural and artistic enjoyment for the elderly and the development of local culture, and is recruiting 5 new members until April 11.

Founded in 2019, the Yangcheon-gu Silver Choir consists of a total of 55 members including the conductor, accompanist, and general members. Currently, local seniors aged from 60 to 83, with an average age of 70, belong to the choir, communicating with local residents through music and playing a significant role as cultural ambassadors promoting the district’s culture and arts.

Eligibility for application is residents of Yangcheon-gu aged 56 or older, and recruitment categories are divided into male (tenor, bass) and female (soprano, alto). The screening process includes a first round of application document review, followed by a second round of practical interviews for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria. Selected candidates must prepare one free-choice piece from art songs or arias.

After the practical examination, the final selected members will engage in various internal and external activities such as weekly regular rehearsals under the guidance of a professional veteran conductor, local festivals, various competitions, and regular concerts.

A district official stated, “Through various performances, members can improve their musical skills and contribute to talent development, resulting in very high satisfaction among the members,” adding, “We expect this to improve the quality of life for the elderly.”

Residents wishing to apply can visit the Cultural and Sports Division of the district office or submit their applications via email to the person in charge.

The Yangcheon-gu Silver Choir delivers a beautiful harmony filled with maturity to the local community through performances at local events such as the Longevity Culture University graduation ceremony, invited performances at the Suwon City Women’s Choir concert, national choir competitions, small concerts, and year-end concerts.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “The Yangcheon-gu Silver Choir breathes life with songs filled with the fragrance of life, sharing warmth and emotion with the residents,” and added, “Through this recruitment of new members for the Silver Choir, we hope to create even more diverse and beautiful melodies together, so we look forward to the participation of many passionate residents.”
