16 Years Since the 18th General Election in 2008
The candidates for the People Power Party in all 8 electoral districts of Gwangju have been confirmed. This is the first time in 16 years since the 18th National Assembly election in 2008 that candidates have been nominated in all electoral districts in the Gwangju area.
According to the People Power Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party on the 2nd, the party’s nomination management committee conducted interviews for candidates running in the Honam region on the 29th of last month and decided on single recommended candidates for the Seo-gu (Eul), Buk-gu (Gap), and Buk-gu (Eul) electoral districts in Gwangju on the same day.

Kim Yoon, a preliminary candidate for Seo-gu (Eul), graduated from Gwangju Jinheung High School and Seoul National University with a major in Western History. He previously served as the head of the global management planning team at Daewoo Motors and as a nomination screening committee member for the People Power Party’s Seoul local elections.
Kim Jeong-myeong, a preliminary candidate for Buk-gu (Gap), graduated from the Department of Public Administration at Chonnam National University Law School. He formerly served as the vice chairman of the Gwangju branch of the Korea Freedom Federation and currently serves as the vice chairman of the People Power Party Gwangju City Party.
Yang Jong-ah, a candidate for Buk-gu (Eul) recruited as a talent in the cultural and arts field by the People Power Party Talent Recruitment Committee on the 22nd of last month, is an expert in the cultural and arts field who organizes and plans classical performance programs in the region. She graduated from the vocal music department of Chonnam National University College of Music and is a former announcer for Busan MBC and Gwangju MBC.
Previously, Yang Hyun-gu was confirmed as a preliminary candidate for Dong-gu Nam-gu (Gap), Park Eun-sik for Dong-gu Nam-gu (Eul), Ha Heon-sik for Seo-gu (Gap), Kim Jeong-hyun for Gwangsan-gu (Gap), and Ahn Tae-uk for Gwangsan-gu (Eul), all preparing for this general election.
Joo Ki-hwan, the city party chairman, said, “In this general election, the 8 candidates of the Gwangju City Party will present pledges and feasible policies for the development of Gwangju and engage in policy competition with the Democratic Party,” adding, “We will do our best to break the Democratic Party’s one-party monopoly and to have the first People Power Party local district member of the National Assembly elected.”
