Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) held the event "Seodaemun, 1919 The Shout of That Day" around Seodaemun Independence Park on the 1st and 2nd to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement.
On the 1st, at a special stage inside the Seodaemun Prison History Hall, the March 1st Independence Declaration was read aloud followed by three cheers of "Manse" (Hurrah), and a magnificent parade of citizens shouting "Manse" took place along a 350-meter section leading to Independence Gate.
At Independence Park, the first raising ceremony of a large Taegukgi flag measuring 5.4 meters wide and 3.6 meters high was held. To facilitate this, the district installed a new 25-meter-high flagpole. The ceremony was enhanced by the participation of the 56th Division Military Band of the Capital Defense Command.
At the Assembly Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Memorial Hall, a March 1st commemorative concert was held to honor the noble sacrifices of patriotic ancestors and to reflect on the values of freedom and peace, moving the audience deeply.

On the 2nd, an academic symposium was held at the Assembly Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Memorial Hall under the theme "Historical Significance and Development Plans for the Old Seodaemun Prison Area," exploring the development direction of the historical and cultural belt connecting Independence Gate, Seodaemun Prison History Hall, and the Provisional Government Memorial Hall.
The district organized this event to seek development directions for the historical and cultural belt linking Independence Gate, Seodaemun Prison History Hall, and the Provisional Government Memorial Hall.
Professor Park Kyung-mok of the Department of Korean History at Chungnam National University emphasized in his keynote presentation titled "From Gyeongseong Prison to Seodaemun Prison History Hall, Reflecting Modern and Contemporary Korean History" that "to restore Seodaemun Prison as a space reflecting modern and contemporary Korean history, the original spatial form must be revived."
In the comprehensive discussion, following the lifting of the Blue House security mission by the 1st Guard Unit of the Capital Defense Command, a proposal was made to relocate this unit, which is adjacent to the Seodaemun Prison History Hall, to the outskirts of the metropolitan area and instead develop the site into a special tourism zone utilizing advanced research complexes such as bio and semiconductors, as well as historical and cultural resources. This proposal attracted significant attention.
