Claims Linear Compressor Lifespan Less Than 10 Years
LG Electronics "No Proof of Defect"
Some American consumers are pushing for a class-action lawsuit over defects in LG Electronics refrigerators.
Local broadcasters such as NBC Los Angeles reported this on the 1st (local time). Azar Muzari, a Los Angeles-based attorney, claimed that although LG Electronics offers a 10-year warranty on the linear compressors used in the refrigerators and states they have a durability of 20 years, the actual lifespan is less than 10 years.
Attorney Muzari said, "This is a nationwide issue. Even if not tens of thousands, thousands of people are facing similar problems," and NBC Chicago reported that he is requesting a federal judge to certify his clients' lawsuit as a class action.
The lawsuit, targeting products manufactured in 2018, names LG Electronics, Kenmore refrigerators using LG Electronics' linear compressors, and retailers as defendants.
LG Electronics told the U.S. media, "Refrigerator issues related to cooling performance can arise from various factors," adding, "If cooling problems occur, we provide a 5-year warranty that fully covers parts and labor related to the compressor and other components."
Additionally, ABC reported that in a filing submitted to the court, LG Electronics stated that the plaintiffs' defect claims are sporadic complaints. LG Electronics said, "No defects in the product have been proven, and these are unilateral claims."
