Park Hye-ja, a preliminary candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, had her appeal accepted, changing the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu (Gap) electoral district race into a three-person primary, drawing attention to whether this will create a variable.
The Democratic Party primary for the Gwangju Seo-gu Gap electoral district was originally announced as a two-person race between incumbent lawmaker Song Gap-seok and former Gwangju Metropolitan City Culture and Economy Deputy Mayor Jo In-cheol, but it changed to a three-way contest after former Democratic Party Supreme Council member Park Hye-ja filed an appeal.
However, personnel from former Supreme Council member Park Hye-ja’s campaign declared their support for preliminary candidate Jo In-cheol.
According to Jo In-cheol’s campaign office on the 1st, Jang Jae-seong, former vice chairman of the Gwangju City Council and co-chairman of Park Hye-ja’s campaign, and Kim Tae-young, former chairman of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, visited Jo In-cheol’s campaign office to declare their support and join the campaign.
They said, “With the three-person primary, Lawmaker Song could receive a reflexive benefit,” and added, “We will work hard for the election of preliminary candidate Jo In-cheol, who will change Seo-gu, Gwangju, and the Republic of Korea against Lawmaker Song.”
Preliminary candidate Jo expressed strong determination, saying, “With the support of my backers, I will definitely win this general election, create a foothold for regime change, and transform Seo-gu and Gwangju into wealthy cities.”
Seo Dae-seok, co-chairman of the integrated campaign committee, said, “Following the joining of key figures from former lawmaker Jeong Soon-ae and Kang’s campaign last month, today key figures from Park Hye-ja’s campaign have also joined, enabling us to overwhelmingly win both the primary and the general election,” and added, “We will organize the grand unification melting pot campaign committee well and steadily prepare for victory in the general election.”
