Insurance Payment in Case of Accidents Caused by Bicycles
Hamyang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that it has renewed the ‘Hamyang County Bicycle Insurance’ for 2024 to ensure that residents can safely use bicycles.
The ‘Hamyang County Bicycle Insurance’ provides benefits without a separate enrollment process to residents registered in Hamyang County, including foreigners, regardless of the location of the accident. It covers not only accidents that occur while directly riding or boarding a bicycle but also injuries caused by bicycles while walking.
The main coverage includes ▲ death from bicycle accidents (ages 15 and older) and permanent disability up to 10 million KRW ▲ consolation money for bicycle accident injuries ranging from 200,000 to 600,000 KRW (for diagnoses of 4 weeks or more) ▲ fines up to 20 million KRW for causing injury or death to others while riding a bicycle if confirmed by a court ruling (excluding those under 14 years old), attorney fees up to 2 million KRW, and bicycle traffic accident support funds up to 30 million KRW (excluding those under 14 years old).
To apply for insurance benefits, claims must be submitted to DB Insurance within 3 years from the date of the accident (within 3 years from the diagnosis date for permanent disability) along with the insurance claim form and relevant supporting documents.
A county official stated, “Last year’s bicycle insurance enrollment helped residents who suffered damages from bicycle accidents,” and added, “Since insurance claims can be made within 3 years from the date of the accident, we will promote the insurance more widely this year to ensure that all residents can receive the benefits.”
