Equipped with this advanced technology, the SKYPHONE is scheduled to be sold in 150 countries worldwide through Thuraya’s distribution partners starting September 2024.
Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Thuraya, stated, “The new SKYPHONE will revolutionize the smartphone market and provide users the opportunity to stay connected wherever they are. Since this SKYPHONE supports both terrestrial and satellite connectivity, it can use SIM cards from over 370 mobile network roaming partners across 150 countries worldwide. It will be useful for people traveling with special purposes or in emergency situations, and is expected to pioneer a new satellite communication market.”
An AP Satellite official emphasized, “AP Satellite integrates information and communication technology, a technology possessed by only a few global companies such as Motorola, Qualcomm, and Hughes in the United States, into the satellite industry, holding various core technologies. We are also accelerating the verification and commercialization of satellite-mobile integrated terminals for the 6G era and the development of geostationary and low earth orbit communication payloads in preparation for the New Space era.”
