Upstage announced on the 29th that it will collaborate with Polaris Office, a specialized office software (SW) company, to jointly develop an 'On-Device Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office.'
On-device AI is a technology that installs a lightweight large language model (LLM) directly on personal devices such as smartphones and computers, enabling the use of generative AI without an internet connection. It also operates in closed network environments such as government agencies and the financial sector. Offline usage fundamentally blocks sensitive information leaks, enhancing security.
The two companies will integrate Upstage's pre-trained LLM 'Sola' into the global document software 'Polaris Office' to introduce the world's first on-device AI-based office solution. This will enable document work utilizing various functions of the Sola LLM, such as real-time document translation, information summarization, and high-quality text generation.
Upstage plans to make a full-scale challenge in the global market by partnering with Polaris Office, which has 128 million users worldwide. Previously, Upstage took swift steps to expand the on-device AI domain, including partnering with LG Electronics to promote the integration of Sola into LG's 'Gram' laptops.
Kwon Soon-il, Vice President of Business at Upstage, said, "We are pleased to set a milestone by developing the world's first on-device AI-based document solution together with Polaris Office," adding, "Going forward, Upstage will expand various generative AI services led by world-class LLM technology and increase its presence in the global market."
