Safety Inspection of Sidewalks, Roadways, and Road Facilities in the Area Until March 15
Accompanied by Private Experts for Direct Patrol... Intensive Inspection to Prevent Safety Accidents

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that it will conduct safety inspections on sidewalks, roadways, and road facilities within the district until March 15, in preparation for the thawing season.

This safety inspection aims to prevent various safety accidents that may occur as the frozen ground thaws during winter, and to promptly repair hazardous elements and citizen inconveniences in advance, creating a safe and pleasant walking environment.

The key inspection items include ▲inconveniences in passage such as sidewalk subsidence and damage ▲subsidence of sidewalks around structures such as subway ventilation shafts and distribution panel bases near sidewalks ▲subsidence of sidewalks in excavation areas caused by redevelopment, reconstruction, and subway construction ▲damage and deformation of bridge and overpass structures. Roads (sidewalks), concrete retaining walls, and bridges deemed to have a high risk of safety accidents during the thawing season will be inspected.

The inspection will be conducted by operating six inspection teams, with the person in charge for each route patrolling directly together with private experts in civil engineering structures. Minor and simple issues found through the safety inspection will be promptly repaired by the district’s road maintenance team, and issues that are difficult to address in the short term will have maintenance plans established and be completed within the first half of the year.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through this inspection, we will actively repair walking hazards such as sidewalk subsidence and damage caused by ground freezing and thawing, creating a safe walking environment and making Dongdaemun-gu a safe city free from disasters by doing our best.”
