Democratic Party's Min Hyung-bae and An Do-gul from Gwangju Confirmed for the Final Election

The Democratic Party of Korea announced the results of primaries in 13 regions on the 28th.

In the Gwangsan-gu (Eul) electoral district of Gwangju, the primary was contested among three candidates: incumbent National Assembly member Min Hyung-bae, former Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy spokesperson Kim Sung-jin, and former Blue House senior administrative officer Jung Jae-hyuk. Although a runoff was scheduled for next month if no candidate received a majority, Min secured a majority of votes and directly advanced to the main election without a runoff.

In the Dong-gu Nam-gu (Eul) electoral district, incumbent Lee Byung-hoon and former Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Ahn Do-gul competed, with Ahn defeating the incumbent to receive the party nomination.

Thus, Democratic Party candidates have been confirmed in five out of eight electoral districts in the Gwangju region. Previously, preliminary candidates Jung Jin-wook in Dong-gu Nam-gu (Gap), Jung Jun-ho in Buk-gu (Gap), and Jeon Jin-sook in Buk-gu (Eul) advanced to the main election.

In all three districts, incumbents were defeated, signaling a mood of incumbent turnover, but Min Hyung-bae survived.

In early next month, primaries will be held in Seo-gu (Eul) among preliminary candidates Kim Kwang-jin, Kim Kyung-man, and Yang Bu-nam; in Seo-gu (Gap) between incumbent Song Gap-seok and preliminary candidate Jo In-cheol; and in Gwangsan-gu (Gap) between incumbent Lee Yong-bin and Democratic Party legal special advisor Park Gyun-taek.
