Modern Reinterpretation of Muan Buncheong Pottery, Jingyeong Landscape Painting, and Munjado Traditions
The Osungwoo Art Museum in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, will hold its first planned exhibition of 2024, titled "Tradition, Connecting and Crossing," until May 5.
According to the county on the 28th, the exhibition, which opened on the 24th, invited seven artists and is divided into two parts, featuring works that reinterpret traditional techniques of Muan's pottery, true-view landscape painting, and munjado in a modern way.
The first part, under the theme "A Millennium of Sensibility," invites local artists such as Kim Du-seok, Kim Cheon-il, and Park Jeong-gyu to explore true-view landscape paintings and Muan Buncheong pottery works born from the unique terrain and culture of the southwestern coast.
The second part, titled "Letters Turned into Paintings ? Munjado," showcases works by artists Park Soo-kyung, Son Dong-hyun, Lee Jin-kyung, and Hong In-suk, allowing viewers to appreciate munjado, which expresses the long history, symbolic tradition, and communication of letters in unique and diverse ways.
A county official stated, "This exhibition reflects memories and history of the past and examines how tradition, which has flowed through time, relates to and is reinterpreted with other elements. Like every year, the museum is prepared to serve as an archive for the local community's art and cultural traditions and to broaden new horizons of interpretation."
Admission to the exhibition is free. The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the museum is closed every Monday. For inquiries, please contact the Osungwoo Art Museum in Muan-gun.
