Naver Issues Election Warnings for AI Services... Strengthens Deepfake Countermeasures

Ahead of the general election, Naver announced on the 28th that it will clearly communicate the technical limitations and provide guidance on the difficulty of offering its generative artificial intelligence (AI) services, Clova X and 'Cue:', when used for election-related information requests or predictions.

Considering that some related information may be provided due to various types of questions or requests, Naver will also display user caution notices at the bottom of the Clova X and Cue service chat windows during the election period.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to prevent damage caused by AI technologies such as deepfakes. Naver stated, "With the enforcement of the Public Official Election Act, which newly includes regulations related to deepfakes in this general election, caution is necessary when creating election-related posts or content using AI," adding, "We intend to start efforts to raise awareness about problems caused by deepfakes and to prevent users from inadvertently using them, not only during the election period but also afterward."

To this end, when creating posts using videos on platforms such as blogs and cafes, deepfake-related guidance messages will be provided so that users can check and be cautious about the relevant content.

In addition, monitoring will be strengthened to prevent the distribution of related information or content through search, and when related search terms are entered, a notice reminding users of the problems and precautions related to deepfakes will be displayed at the top of the search results. A help section will also be newly organized to allow users to check types of damage and reporting methods.

Meanwhile, in the news service, labeling will be enhanced so that users can clearly recognize articles automatically written by AI or robots. Along with this, a 'Report Election-Related False Information' channel will be opened on the main page of the Naver Report Center to allow reporting of false information during the election period. Monitoring will be strengthened 24/7 by expanding dedicated personnel for intensive monitoring of news comments, and a hotline will be established across departments to respond quickly in case of issues.
