EasyMediBot Completes Surgical Robot Technology Transfer with Korea Aerospace University and Seoul National University Hospital

The surgical robot business of EasyMedibot, a subsidiary of WSI, a specialized pharmaceutical and medical device distribution company, is progressing smoothly.

On the 28th, EasyMedibot announced that it has completed a technology transfer agreement for the 'Surgical Assist Robot Uterine Elevator' with Korea Aerospace University and Seoul National University Hospital.

The technology transferred this time is a family patent including domestic and international patents and divisional application patents related to the uterine elevator system jointly developed by Korea Aerospace University and Seoul National University Hospital. The technology has been enhanced by adding operating module functions compared to the technology transferred in 2021. This technology has been applied to the surgical assist robot used in gynecological laparoscopic surgery (product name: Ubot, Uterine Robot).

Ubot is a surgical assist robot for gynecological laparoscopic surgery and drug injection currently being developed by EasyMedibot in collaboration with Professor Byungkyu Kim’s team at Korea Aerospace University and Professor Hyunhoon Jung’s team in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Seoul National University Hospital. Medical staff can precisely control the position and posture of the elevator as desired through Ubot, enabling more convenient and accurate surgery. It is also equipped with an automated precise drug injection function that can measure tissue depth finely and administer drugs.

Last December, Ubot received a ‘usability’ certification in the international standard medical device usability field (IEC 62366-1:2015/AMD1:2020) commissioned by Professor Hyunhoon Jung’s team at Seoul National University Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to the Innovation Medical Technology Research Institute of Seoul National University Hospital. Fifteen obstetricians and gynecologists who participated in the evaluation successfully performed gynecological surgery experiments using Ubot. Through this, Ubot met the usability standards as a uterine elevator and was recognized for safety and convenience.

With the completion of this patent technology transfer, establishing a technical entry barrier, EasyMedibot plans to accelerate preparations to target the domestic and international surgical robot markets. Within this year, it plans to develop a prototype of Ubot, conduct marketing, and obtain medical device certification and product approval. The goal is to launch the product as soon as possible and supply Ubot to hospitals at home and abroad.

An EasyMedibot official said, "Although the number of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgeries in the domestic and international gynecological surgery market is continuously increasing, there has been no surgical assist robot developed so far. We will expedite the commercialization of Ubot and establish a leading position in the gynecological surgical robot and uterine elevator market.”
