Seol Hoon: "Excluding Im Jong-seok is killing pro-Moon faction... We must support Moon's party recovery"

After the General Election, Mention of 'Moon Jae-in's Role Theory'
"Despite Moon's Request for a 'Prestigious Party,' Im Jong-seok Was Cut Off"

On the 28th, Seol Hoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the exclusion of former presidential chief of staff Im Jong-seok from strategic nominations as "killing pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in)" and mentioned the role of former President Moon Jae-in. He argued that if the Democratic Party loses the April 10 general election, former President Moon should step in to resolve internal party conflicts.

On the same day, Seol stated on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' "Former President Moon is a very gentle person and, having stepped down after his presidential term, he would not take the lead in this situation to say what should be done," but added, "After the general election, he should contribute significantly to stabilizing the Democratic Party."

Seol continued his criticism regarding the nomination of former Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Chairperson Jeon Hyun-hee in Seoul Jung-Seongdong-gap instead of former Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok. He said, "Chairperson Jeon is an excellent person, but it would be appropriate to send her as a proportional representative or to another district," and claimed, "Putting Chairperson Jeon there is killing Im Jong-seok, killing pro-Moon." He added, "Since they cannot kill all pro-Moon members, they plan to keep at least one lawmaker like Yoon Gun-young and clean up the rest."

He then referred to the 'Myeongmun Party' that former President Moon ordered during a luncheon with party leader Lee Jae-myung and other party leaders on the 4th. The term 'Myeongmun Party' is derived from one character each from Lee Jae-myung and Moon Jae-in's names.

Seol explained, "Some interpret it as meaning to create a party of Lee Jae-myung and Moon Jae-in, but since former President Moon is not someone who promotes himself, it literally means to create a prestigious, good party," adding, "They should unite to oppose the parts led by President Yoon Suk-yeol and build a good country." He claimed, "However, Lee Jae-myung is currently misjudging, thinking 'No, if I do it, everything will work,' and although former President Moon earnestly asked to organize the framework, by cutting off former Chief of Staff Im, he declared, 'I will not listen to you.'"

Regarding criticism that nominating former Chief of Staff Im, a representative of the '86 generation (those born in the 1960s who were university students in the 1980s), is inappropriate amid the rising '86 generation purge theory,' Seol responded, "That is just the logic of the People Power Party; the Democratic Party is the exact opposite." He criticized, "Those who participated in the student movement are the very people who created today's democracy in South Korea, so why belittle and attack them like that?" and added, "That is the logic promoted by the People Power Party and those who supported former Presidents Jeon Du-hwan and Park Chung-hee."
