Kakao Ventures Makes Seed Investment in Omelet, an AI-Based Decision Automation Solution

Kakao Ventures announced on the 28th that it has made a seed investment in Omlet, a company developing generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based decision automation solutions.

Omlet is developing an AI optimization solver that automatically solves complex decision-making problems in industrial sites. It uses generative AI to solve 'combinatorial optimization' algorithms that determine the optimal work sequence and resource allocation methods. Combinatorial optimization refers to finding the best possible outcome in situations with various options where mathematical calculations make it difficult to find an answer. It is mainly applied to reduce inefficiencies and increase productivity in industrial settings. Typical examples include determining the order of tasks when routing transportation, operating facilities, and allocating resources.

The AI optimization solver is provided in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS). Companies can build customized decision-making systems simply by inputting problem data. The company explained that it has built learning data by repeatedly solving combinatorial optimization problems across various industries, and based on this, it can find solutions to arbitrary problems.

Omlet’s technology is expected to be utilized across various industries. Currently, Omlet’s technology has been applied to logistics system operations and unmanned autonomous robots within factories. It is also conducting proof of concept (PoC) for logistics companies and logistics delivery optimization algorithms, demonstrating its effectiveness. In the future, the company plans to expand the application of its technology to semiconductor design and new drug material development.

Based on multiple achievements, Omlet was selected last year for the Deep Tech TIPS program by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, which supports promising startups with excellent technology by providing up to 1.7 billion KRW over three years for technology development, commercialization, and overseas marketing funds.

Jang Won-yeol, Senior Investment Manager at Kakao Ventures, said, “Omlet is a team with world-class AI technology and optimization capabilities,” adding, “It will establish its presence in the market by solving issues such as labor shortages and rising energy costs scattered across logistics and manufacturing sites.”

Park Jin-gyu, CEO of Omlet, stated, “While existing generative AI models provided services that automated tasks humans could do more efficiently, Omlet’s generative AI optimization technology will be an innovative service that actually solves complex problems humans could not solve,” and added, “We will continue to grow to provide solutions that overcome countless inefficiencies in industrial sites.”
