Arts Council to Open Applications for Resident Writer Support Project at Literature Infrastructure Until the 8th of Next Month

On the 27th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea announced that they will accept applications for the '2024 Literary Infrastructure Resident Writer Support Project' until the 8th of next month.

The Literary Infrastructure Resident Writer Support Project is a system that provides salaries and literary program operation expenses to resident writers who reside in literary infrastructure facilities such as libraries, literary museums, and bookstores, and plan and operate literary programs for local residents. The project aims to revitalize literary enjoyment in the respective regions and provide stable creative conditions for writers.

Starting this year, the newly implemented Literary Infrastructure Resident Writer Support Project integrates and reorganizes the existing Library Resident Writer Support Project (hosted by the Arts Council Korea), Regional Literary Museum Resident Writer Support Project (hosted by the Korea Literary Museum Association), and Small Bookstore with Writers Project (hosted by the Korean Writers' Association), expanding the scope of support to all literary infrastructure facilities. Approximately 70 literary infrastructure facilities and writers are expected to be supported this year.

In particular, to enhance the quality of programs operated at each literary infrastructure facility this year, support will be strengthened by expanding program operation expenses, increasing writer salaries, and improving working conditions. Regional literary festivals will also be held to allow many citizens to share the value of literature.

Applications are open to literary infrastructure facilities that have the conditions to operate literary programs in cooperation with resident writers, have literary books available, and can provide a separate independent creative space for writers. Detailed information can be found on the Arts Council Korea website, and applications can be submitted through the National Culture and Arts Support System by 6 p.m. on March 8.

An official from the Arts Council Korea stated, "With the unification of the operation of the Literary Infrastructure Resident Writer Support Project, we expect participation from a wider variety of literary infrastructure facilities," adding, "We will do our best to support so that residents using these facilities can have access to higher-quality literary enjoyment opportunities."
