72-Year-Old Chinese Man Transforms into Blonde Beauty... Makeup or Disguise?

Makeup Artist with 5.5 Million Followers
Famous Actors and Broadcasters Line Up to Receive Services

A makeup artist in China has attracted attention by making a 72-year-old grandmother look like a young woman.

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) spotlighted 20-year-old Chinese makeup expert 'Tuzi' on the 27th (local time). Tuzi is an influencer and makeup artist with 5.5 million followers on Douyin, a Chinese video streaming platform similar to TikTok.

He conducts live broadcasts on Douyin every day at 8:30 PM, with an average viewership exceeding 1 million. It is reported that dozens of apprentices have already learned makeup skills from him.

Tuzi, who lives in Yunnan Province in southwestern China, recently held an event called the 'Extreme Makeover 100 People Challenge.' This event involves applying makeup to 100 ordinary people. Notably, the video that received the most 'likes' was one transforming a 72-year-old grandmother into a European-style blonde beauty. A local netizen praised, "Tuzi restored the grandmother's youth."

In addition, he made a 57-year-old comedian look like a modern handsome man, and the actor's wife expressed amazement, saying, "I could hardly recognize my husband." It is known that famous actors and TV hosts line up to receive makeup from Tuzi.

Tuzi operates 17 studios across China. Each studio offers makeup styles reflecting the characteristics of the local area. The price for photo shoots conducted after makeup ranges from 699 to 2888 yuan (approximately 130,000 to 530,000 KRW) per photo.

However, some criticism has been directed at Tuzi. His makeup style tends to erase not only the flaws but also the strengths of the subjects, and due to strict guidelines, it tends to become 'standardized.' Some netizens mock Tuzi's makeup as 'assembly line style.'

One customer who spent 1599 yuan (about 290,000 KRW) on makeup complained, "The studio staff had a very poor attitude," and added, "Everyone looks the same."

Meanwhile, according to local media such as China News, more than 20 million people are engaged in the makeup industry in China. The average age of workers is very young, between 20 and 25 years old. Their average monthly income reportedly varies widely, ranging from 6,300 to 20,000 yuan (approximately 1,160,000 to 3,690,000 KRW).
