41 Cases of Illegal Activities Detected in Yeoncheon-gun Comprehensive Audit

Gyeonggi Province detected 41 cases of illegal activities during a comprehensive audit of Yeoncheon-gun.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it conducted a comprehensive audit of Yeoncheon-gun from November 20 to 28 last year and notified Yeoncheon-gun of the audit results, which included ▲41 administrative actions such as institutional warnings and corrective or cautionary measures ▲16 personnel actions (32 people), including 3 minor disciplinary actions ▲6 financial actions such as recoveries (approximately 158 million KRW).

Gyeonggi Province confirmed illegal and improper matters such as Yeoncheon-gun’s failure to impose fines due to dual and segmented administration between the verification of final court rulings related to violations of the Real Name Real Estate Act and the investigation of fines for violations of the same Act, as well as granting permission to change the use of detached houses that did not meet lodging facility standards into residential lodging facilities and illegally registering them as residential lodging businesses.

In addition, Gyeonggi Province conducted focused audits on areas closely related to residents’ lives, including ▲management of business sites that are required to subscribe to disaster compensation liability insurance to cover bodily and property damages caused by fires, collapses, etc., in restaurants and lodging businesses ▲criminal background checks when hiring workers at social welfare facilities (facilities related to the elderly, disabled, children, etc.) ▲application of electricity bill reduction benefits for daycare centers in social welfare facilities ▲compliance with food additive usage standards and appropriateness of mixed formulation labeling products, and took corrective actions on issues causing safety concerns and inconveniences to residents.

Choi Eun-soon, Auditor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will continue to conduct audits that align with changes in the times and the expectations of residents, not only on delegated tasks and subsidized projects but also in areas closely related to residents’ safety and daily life, to prevent unfairness or inconvenience caused by improper administration."

Gyeonggi Province will operate a one-month period for re-examination requests regarding the pointed-out issues in this audit and will disclose the final results on the Gyeonggi Province website (gg.go.kr) reflecting the outcomes of the re-examination process.
