Pope Cancels Two Appointments Over Three Days Due to "Mild Flu"

Pope Francis contracted the flu and canceled his audience schedule on the 26th (local time).

The Vatican stated, "Mild flu-like symptoms persist. There is no fever," adding, "However, as a precautionary measure, this morning's audience schedule was postponed."

This is the second time in three days that the Pope has canceled a schedule.

On the 24th, the Pope canceled the regular work-related audience with Vatican officials due to flu symptoms but presided over the Sunday Angelus prayer at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican as planned the next day.

The Pope's next public event is scheduled for the 28th at the Paul VI Hall in the Vatican for the Wednesday General Audience.

The 87-year-old Pope has raised health concerns in recent years due to frequent illnesses.

In April last year, he was hospitalized for three days with acute bronchitis, and in June of the same year, he underwent hernia surgery, spending nine days in the hospital.

In December last year, bronchitis worsened, preventing him from attending the COP28 climate change conference held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Pope had pneumonia at the age of 21 and underwent surgery to remove part of his lung. Since spring 2022, his right knee has deteriorated, requiring him to use a cane or wheelchair to manage his schedule.
