Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul Rides Bus on Commute to Hear Citizens' Opinions
Key Bus Stops Staffed with Guides, Dedicated Call Center Operated
Mokpo City announced that it will begin a pilot operation of the fully revamped city bus routes, redesigned for the first time in 17 years to establish a Mokpo-style public transportation system, starting from the 26th, and will make every effort to minimize inconvenience to citizens.
The city proceeded with a full overhaul of the city bus routes after conducting route revision services and public discussions, reorganizing a total of 14 routes into 8 routes by reflecting public interest and efficiency.
On the first day of the pilot operation, the 26th, Mayor Park Hong-ryul personally visited key transfer hub stops during the morning commute, encouraged on-site guides composed of city employees, and listened to the inconveniences experienced by citizens waiting to board the buses.

He then boarded the main line bus No. 3 from the bus terminal stop to Mokpo City Hall together with citizens to inspect the revised routes and the interior of the bus, carefully reviewing citizens’ opinions regarding the route changes.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “Various opinions from citizens regarding the route revision will be reviewed and, if necessary, reflected in future fine adjustments of the routes,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that the revamped routes quickly settle in so that the stable ‘Mokpo-style public transportation system,’ where buses no longer stop unexpectedly, can be launched starting in July.”
To minimize confusion caused by the route revision, the city is conducting comprehensive promotions including posting route information at all bus stops, distributing notices to all households, placing promotional posters at multi-use facilities, posting revised route maps on the city’s website, and sharing card news on the city’s social media (SNS).
Additionally, preparations have been completed for replacing route guides inside buses and at stops, maintaining the MyBi Card (transportation card), Bus Information System (BIS), and terminals (BIT), as well as establishing traffic guidance maps and internet portal infrastructure.
Along with this, during peak commuting hours, Mokpo city employees and professional on-site guides are being intensively deployed at 60 major stops, and a dedicated call center is operating on weekdays (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and weekends (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
Meanwhile, the ‘Mokpo-style public transportation system,’ scheduled to be launched in July, is a Mokpo-customized public transportation policy designed to secure the safety, public interest, and economic efficiency of city buses, ensuring a continuous supply of city buses as the citizens’ means of transportation.
