Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will operate various companion family programs at the 'Seocho Animal Love Center' starting from the 8th of next month, in line with the era of 13 million pet owners (2023 Korea Pet Report, KB Management Research Institute).
The popular program, 'Companion Dog Academy,' is recruiting new participants for the problem behavior education class and the walking training class to enhance the social skills of companion dogs and provide solutions for behavioral issues.
This year, responding to requests from existing Companion Dog Academy students, an 'Advanced Companion Dog Academy' class has been newly established. While the existing classes focused on improving the social skills of companion dogs, the advanced class focuses on the 'companion owner,' educating guardians on understanding dog body language and methods for analyzing problem behaviors. The goal is to cultivate exemplary pet owners who live harmoniously with their dogs without causing inconvenience to others.
Registration for each program will be available from the 26th, and detailed information can be found on the Seocho Animal Love Center website.
Starting from April this year, a new 'Visiting Companion Dog Education' program will be launched, where dog trainers visit apartment complexes and other places experiencing conflicts among residents due to companion dog issues. The program will guide residents on dog training methods and proper pet owner etiquette to be observed in public places, aiming to establish a healthy pet culture in daily life.
Additionally, the center will offer 'Dog Fitness' classes to promote the health of companion dogs and lead environmental protection and pet owner awareness improvement through pet logging events (activities involving walking dogs while picking up trash).
Furthermore, to provide humane funerals when pets are lost, the district will support residents with a 30% discount on funeral costs and operate the 'Seoripul Rainbow Gathering' in the second half of the year to help pet owners overcome feelings of loss.
