On the evening of the 24th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the ‘2024 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival’ held around Danghyeoncheon in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
Hosted by Nowon Nori Madang and sponsored by the Nowon District Office, this event was organized to celebrate Jeongwol Daeboreum by enjoying traditional culture with residents and restoring a sense of community.
On this day, Mayor Oh Seung-rok experienced various seasonal customs with residents who visited Danghyeoncheon, and from 6:30 PM, he participated in the main events such as Nakwhanori (fireworks on hanging sticks) and spinning fire cans, praying for a year of abundance.
In particular, when lighting the Nakwhabong (fire sticks) hanging on a rope, red flames crackled and fell like rain in the ‘Nakwhanori’ performance. The sparks falling onto the water created a spectacular scene against the black night sky, and the large-scale burning of the Daljip (moon house) marked the grand finale of the event.
Meanwhile, the district operated a mobile crowd safety management system during the peak viewing hours and conducted focused CCTV monitoring around the festival area to ensure residents could enjoy the event safely with a prompt response system in place.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I am pleased that a place for harmony and communication has been prepared where people can reflect on the fading seasonal customs and experience various traditional cultures in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum. I hope that with the blazing Daljip, we can drive away misfortune and wish for peace and happiness throughout the year.”
