As the government has raised the health and medical disaster crisis alert to the 'Severe' level in response to the doctors' collective action, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has upgraded the existing Seongbuk-gu Emergency Health and Medical Countermeasures Headquarters to the Seongbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters led by the mayor starting from the 23rd.
As of the 23rd, with the Ministry of Health and Welfare issuing a 'Severe' alert for the health and medical disaster crisis, Seongbuk-gu expanded and reorganized the Emergency Health and Medical Countermeasures Headquarters, which was previously headed by the vice mayor, into the Seongbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters led by the mayor. The district raised its response level by establishing and operating an emergency medical countermeasure situation room and organizing response personnel to prepare for the medical community's collective action.
Following the launch of the Seongbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the district held a meeting on the 23rd at 4 p.m., chaired by the mayor, with the Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center and district executives to review the emergency medical system status in response to the medical community's collective action.
The Seongbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, expanded with the mayor as the head, will operate from the 23rd until the situation ends. It is composed of a total of 13 working teams, including the Disaster Situation Management Team, Medical and Quarantine Services Team, and Disaster Recovery Public Relations Team.
The main roles include maintaining cooperation with the government, monitoring trends and the doctors' collective action situation, external communication, and public relations.
The Emergency Medical Countermeasure Situation Room was proactively established on the 6th. It operates within the Medical Affairs Division of the Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center to prepare for and respond to the medical community's collective action. It will also operate until the situation ends.
The health center's consultation hours have been extended until 8 p.m. on weekdays to ensure the maintenance of the emergency medical system and minimize gaps in medical care. Depending on the situation, close cooperation with fire, police, and related agencies will continue through ongoing meetings.
Lee Seung-ro, mayor of Seongbuk-gu, announced the upgrade of the Emergency Health and Medical Countermeasures Headquarters to the Seongbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stating, "It is expected that university hospitals located in Seongbuk-gu will experience disruptions in medical services, such as reduced operation of operating rooms and emergency rooms." He urged, "All public officials in Seongbuk-gu should make every effort to maintain the emergency medical system and minimize gaps in medical care."
