Naju-si Provides Free Special Health Checkups Including Lung Capacity for Women Farmers

Naju City in Jeollanam-do is offering free special health checkups for middle-aged and elderly female farmers exposed to various disease and illness risks due to strenuous farm work.

Naju City (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 23rd that it has been selected for the "Special Health Checkup Support Project for Female Farmers" led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, following last year's pilot project.

Through this project selection, the city plans to fully support special health checkup costs of 220,000 KRW per person for 400 female farmers aged 51 to 70, born in even-numbered years.

The special health checkup consists of examination items aimed at preventing diseases frequently occurring in female farmers, who have higher prevalence rates and medical expenses related to farm work compared to non-farmers or male farmers.

The checkup covers 10 items across five areas including pesticide poisoning, musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular system, and lung capacity, enabling early diagnosis and providing specialist consultation services.

Applications for the special health checkup for female farmers can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare centers in their respective towns, townships, or neighborhoods by the 29th.

The medical institution for the checkup is Bitgaram General Hospital, and the full cost of the examination is supported (50% national funds, 12% provincial funds, 38% city funds).

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, "I hope that female farmers who juggle household chores and farm work can reduce the burden of medical expenses and lead healthy daily lives through disease prevention and early diagnosis that they may not have recognized before."
