Real-time Monitoring of Gender Violence Victims' Front Door Situations via Smartphone for Sexual Violence, Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Dating Violence...Smartphone Alerts for Abnormal Movements Detected
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is promoting the ‘Home Security (CCTV) Service Installation Support Project’ to prevent additional harm that may occur to victims of gender-based violence such as stalking and dating violence.
This project provides victims of gender-based violence with closed-circuit (CC)TV systems featuring ▲real-time recording and monitoring at the front door ▲24-hour emergency dispatch service ▲AI facial recognition technology for family members. The project is jointly implemented by Gangbuk-gu, Gangbuk Police Station, and SK Shieldus.
Support is carried out by Gangbuk Police Station recommending candidates in need of assistance to Gangbuk-gu, which then selects the recipients and notifies SK Shieldus. SK Shieldus subsequently provides the recipients with CCTV cameras installed on their front doors and an exclusive application offering AI smart home security services to protect their homes. The district supports the full cost of the service fees for one year.
Victims of gender-based violence can use this service to check the situation at their front door in real time via smartphone, and detect unusual activity through alerts triggered by motion detection.
If a stranger is loitering near the front door, a warning voice can be broadcast or an emergency dispatch service can be requested. In such cases, security personnel on standby nearby will be dispatched, and if the situation is judged to be urgent, the police will also be notified.
Additionally, if family members’ faces are pre-registered in the mobile application, users can receive real-time notifications of their entry and exit.
The support targets victims of gender-based violence such as sexual violence, domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence residing in Gangbuk-gu. This year, the district expanded the support to include victims of sexual and domestic violence to alleviate the anxiety of more victims.
Even if not recommended by Gangbuk Police Station, victims who have reported crimes such as sexual violence, domestic violence, stalking, or dating violence to the police and submit the police-issued report receipt to the district can receive this service. However, stalking cases arising from creditor-debtor relationships or noise disputes between floors are excluded from support.
Those wishing to apply or seeking further information can contact the Women and Family Division of Gangbuk-gu. Meanwhile, last year, the district provided home security services to 27 victims of gender-based violence through this project.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “Preventing additional harm is paramount for victims to quickly recover their daily lives. We hope this project will alleviate some of the anxiety experienced by victims of gender-based violence, and we will continue to implement various initiatives to create a safe residential environment.”
