The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association announced on the 23rd that it has selected 1,289 construction companies that pay wages on time or create many jobs.
The Association annually calculates and publishes the Construction Workforce Employment Index, which is one of the evaluation factors in the comprehensive evaluation bidding system applied to public construction projects worth over 10 billion KRW.
The comprehensive evaluation bidding system was introduced in 2016 to evaluate construction bids comprehensively based on price, construction capability, social responsibility, and to address issues such as quality degradation and industrial accidents caused by excessive competition under the lowest bid system.
This year, a total of 12,892 companies were assessed for the Construction Employment Index, and among them, the top 10%, or 1,289 companies, received a perfect score (Grade 1). Four companies were penalized for wage arrears, down from six last year.
The basic evaluation criteria consist of construction performance capability and bid amount, with deductions applied based on social responsibility and contract reliability. Companies that employ many workers and have few or no wage arrears receive higher scores.
The Construction Employment Index can be checked on the Association’s WEDI system starting today.
