Starting an AI Company Leveraging Lawyer Experience
Developed Legal-Specialized LLM In-House
Launched Enterprise SaaS 'Alibi'
BHSN, a legal tech specialist company, is enhancing productivity in corporate contract management and legal-related tasks by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). As opportunities to enter the global market increase, it is true that the workload for drafting and managing contracts with foreign companies is also rising. With the strengthening of corporate social responsibilities such as fair trade and ESG, risk management is becoming increasingly important. BHSN's goal is to enable corporate legal professionals to move away as much as possible from simple and repetitive tasks through AI and focus on high value-added work.
In an interview with Asia Economy on the 23rd, Lim Jeong-geun, CEO of BHSN, stated, "When global policies, laws, or guidelines change, leaders of companies expanding overseas must make strategic decisions," adding, "AI that has learned countless pieces of information necessary for corporate operations can assist in efficient management."
CEO Lim has about 20 years of experience working as a lawyer at a law firm. In particular, he personally experienced difficulties in mutual trust and communication between companies during global business such as overseas mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Motivated by the idea that applying AI technology could solve the complicated tasks of drafting and managing contracts and legal-related work, he ventured into entrepreneurship four years ago. He said, "While advancing AI technology is important, I believe it is much more important that it is actively used in practice," adding, "We focused on creating value that solves pain points simply and enjoyably from the user's perspective and is worth adopting even at a cost."
Recently, he attended ‘Legalweek,’ a legal tech festival held in New York, USA, where he interacted with various businesspeople from around the world. CEO Lim said, "In the past, legal tech companies vaguely appealed by saying ‘our AI engine is good,’ but now, as the technical barriers of AI have lowered, the focus is on practical effectiveness such as productivity improvement and risk reduction."
Recently, BHSN has been enhancing the quality of its AI services by advancing its self-developed legal-specialized large language model, ‘Legal LLM.’ Legal LLM is a language model specialized for legal services, having learned a vast amount of legal documents such as various contracts, laws, and precedents. The strategy is to bring the language, style, and format actually used in legal documents to assist in drafting contracts or legal advisory drafts.
Last month, BHSN also launched ‘Allibee,’ a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) version of its existing solutions provided to companies. It allows convenient management of the entire process of corporate contracts and legal affairs within a single system, reducing working hours. CEO Lim said, "We expect demand for legal tech to grow further and have set a sales target of 10 billion KRW this year," adding, "We are also preparing language models for entry into Asian markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong."
