Fines Up to 10 Million KRW for Legal Violations
The Ministry of Employment and Labor will launch an ex officio investigation into an incident where the chairman of a Saemaeul Geumgo in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, sexually harassed a female employee.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that, based on interviews with the victim, CCTV footage capturing the perpetrator's sexual harassment, and the chairman's explanatory interview statements, there is a high likelihood that the act constitutes workplace sexual harassment under the Gender Equality in Employment Act, and thus decided to initiate an ex officio investigation.
The Seoul Employment and Labor Office will investigate whether workplace sexual harassment occurred through the ex officio investigation, and if violations of the law are confirmed, measures such as imposing fines of up to 10 million won will be taken.
The chairman is accused of calling employee A to a cafe for a 20-minute conversation under the pretext of a personal meeting, then going down to an underground bar and sexually harassing her for about an hour.
