Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do supports farmers' burden for crop disaster insurance premiums to alleviate the management burden on farms.
According to the city on the 22nd, 'Crop Disaster Insurance' is a support project that compensates for crop damage caused by natural disasters to ensure safe farming activities and relieve farm management instability, as unpredictable weather conditions due to recent abnormal climate changes are increasing day by day.
Among 73 types nationwide, the crops eligible for insurance in Jeongeup City include 56 types such as apples, pears, rice, and ginseng. Compared to the previous year, four types?adzuki beans, spinach, napa cabbage, and radish?have been added.
Individuals or corporations cultivating insured crops in Jeongeup can apply by visiting the local agricultural cooperative during the enrollment period for each item, provided they meet simple requirements such as business registration and cultivation area.
The city supports up to 84% of the insurance premium depending on the coverage level, and farmers only need to bear a minimum of 16%.
Last year in Jeongeup, about 6,800 cases covering 14,130 hectares were enrolled, and insurance payments of 11.8 billion KRW (about 2,600 cases) were made. The insured area has been increasing annually, accounting for 66% of the total cultivated area.
Lee Yong-gwan, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We hope farmers enroll in crop disaster insurance to prevent damage from unexpected natural disasters," and added, "Since the sowing and harvesting periods differ by crop, the enrollment periods also vary, so please be sure to check the enrollment period for your cultivated crops to avoid missing the timing."
