"Make Sure to Utilize Free Gumin Insurance"... Seongbuk-gu Enrolls in 4 Types for Disaster and Accident Preparedness

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 22nd that it operates four types of insurance to ensure the safety of residents from disasters and various accidents.

The insurances subscribed by Seongbuk-gu include Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance, Group Bicycle Insurance, Liability Insurance for Public Facilities, and Wind and Flood Insurance. All residents are automatically enrolled and can benefit from these policies.

Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance covers five items: public transportation accident injury treatment costs, death from gas accidents, permanent disability, burn surgery costs, and more. From February 1 of this year, an additional coverage item for injury diagnosis consolation money for injuries requiring more than four weeks of treatment has been added for residents aged 65 and older.

Depending on the coverage items, Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance provides up to 10 million KRW in coverage, and insurance claims can be made within three years for accidents occurring during the insurance period. Since its implementation in 2020, a total of 53 cases amounting to 113 million KRW have been paid to residents by the end of last year.

Group Bicycle Insurance allows claims for accidents occurring anywhere nationwide while directly riding a bicycle or while seated on a bicycle but not riding, as well as accidents caused by bicycles while walking.

Wind and Flood Insurance is also in effect. This insurance helps reduce property damage to residents caused by natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, strong winds, heavy snow, and earthquakes. When the owner subscribes, the government supports more than 70% of the premium. Basic livelihood security recipients and others can also receive free enrollment through third-party donations.

Additionally, Liability Insurance for Public Facilities is provided to cover personal and property damages caused by reasons such as damage to road facilities.

Seoul City also offers Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance covering 10 items including death from social disasters and natural disasters, which does not overlap with Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance, allowing Seongbuk residents to benefit as well. Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance provides separate compensation regardless of other insurance subscriptions.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “In these difficult times for all residents due to rising prices and economic downturn, we aim to contribute even a little to the recovery of residents affected by unexpected disasters and accidents.” He added, “We will do our best to ensure that no resident misses out on benefits through active promotion.”

For matters related to Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance, inquiries can be made through the Seongbuk-gu Office website, the Seongbuk Resident Safety Insurance section, relevant departments, or insurance companies.
