Focus on Achieving 'Net Zero 2040' Capability
Hanwha Corporation announced on the 22nd that it has received a ‘Leadership A-’ rating in the climate change response category from the global sustainability management evaluation organization, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). This marks a one-step improvement from last year’s ‘Management B’ rating.
CDP is a non-profit international organization established in the UK in 2000. It requires major global companies to disclose environmental management information and conducts analysis and evaluation of this information.
The CDP evaluation is recognized as a credible sustainability indicator alongside the DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index), awarding higher ratings to companies that demonstrate excellence in climate change response strategies, goals, and implementation. In the 2023 evaluation, over 23,000 companies worldwide participated.
Hanwha Corporation has been participating in CDP since 2021. In the 2023 evaluation, it was upgraded to the Leadership A- rating, recognizing its outstanding climate change response capabilities. CDP evaluation ratings are divided into a total of eight levels, including Leadership A, Leadership A-, Management B, and Management B-.
Hanwha Corporation has declared ‘Net Zero 2040,’ aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and is currently implementing its roadmap. To this end, it is setting strategic directions for climate change response centered on the ESG Committee under the Board of Directors and is promoting various eco-friendly activities including renewable energy business development, adoption of low-carbon technologies, and improvement of energy efficiency.
This year, Hanwha completed its membership in K-RE100 (Korean RE100) and expressed its commitment to sourcing 100% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy by 2040.
Kim Nam-wook, Head of Environmental Management Module at Hanwha Corporation’s ESG Council, said, “Achieving the Leadership rating is an indicator of Hanwha’s proactive carbon neutrality efforts and sustainability management achievements,” adding, “We will focus our capabilities on achieving the ‘Net Zero 2040’ goal while participating in global climate change response efforts.”
