Hwang Young-su, president of the Jangma-myeon Sports Association, was appointed as the Eastern General; Shin Jong-guk, chairman of the Jangma-myeon Village Chiefs Association, as the Lieutenant General; and Gu Chun-bong, chairman of the Jangma-myeon Saemaeul Association, as the Major General.

Hwang Young-su, the Eastern General, said, “I am happy and honored to be appointed as the general, but at the same time, I am worried about the heavy responsibility. Together with the appointed generals, I will do my best to inherit the noble spirit of the March 1st Movement of our ancestors and to successfully conclude the 63rd 3·1 Folk Culture Festival as a festival for the citizens.”

The lively opening of the 3·1 Folk Culture Festival Eastern Generals Appointment Ceremony was marked by a Nongak (traditional Korean percussion music) performance in the front yard of the Welfare Center. At the following prayer ritual, the three generals raised a cup to pray for the safety and success of the event.

The three appointed generals will lead a harmonious gathering involving all local residents during the 3·1 Folk Culture Festival, representing the honor of the region in various events such as the Yeongsan Soemori Dae-gi and Yeongsan Tug-of-War.

The 63rd 3·1 Folk Culture Festival is scheduled to be held over four days from February 29th with a pre-event to raise excitement, through March 3rd, in the Yeongsan-myeon area of Changnyeong-gun.
