Yangsa, Direct Power Trading Contract Signing
SK ecoplant announced on the 21st that it has signed a direct power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy supply with SK Hynix.
The signing ceremony held at the SK Hynix Center One Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Bae Seong-jun, Head of Energy Business Division at SK ecoplant, Lee Byung-rae, Vice President of SK Hynix, and other officials from both companies.
Through this agreement, SK Hynix has established a stable renewable energy procurement foundation and has taken a step closer to achieving its net-zero (carbon neutrality) and RE100 (Renewable Energy 100) goals. SK ecoplant plans to supply power generated from a renewable energy power plant with a capacity of 100MW (based on installed capacity) to SK Hynix.
In this process, the solar power plant owned by Tapsun, in which SK ecoplant made a strategic investment in 2022, is expected to be utilized. Tapsun has a domestic solar power development record exceeding 400MW. In January 2022, it also completed the construction of the Sinan Solar Power Plant, the largest solar power complex in Korea with a capacity of 150MW. Tapsun has strengths not only in solar module manufacturing but also in site analysis and grid connection.
Lee Byung-rae, Vice President of SK Hynix, said, “To achieve net-zero and RE100, we are increasing the proportion of renewable energy procurement at our global business sites,” adding, “We will expand collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance execution capabilities for renewable energy transition.”
Bae Seong-jun, Head of Energy Business Division at SK ecoplant, stated, “With this contract, we have been recognized as an RE100 solution company that covers everything from renewable energy project development such as solar and offshore wind power to power supply and maintenance,” and added, “Based on the renewable energy value chain from project development to manufacturing, EPC, and RE100 implementation support, we will ensure smooth achievement of RE100 for domestic and international companies.”
