Gyeonggi Province will conduct special inspections on 40 key management sites of air pollutant emission facilities.
Gyeonggi Province announced that from February 21 to April 19, over an 8-week period, it will carry out special air inspections targeting 40 key management sites of air pollutant emission facilities across 31 cities and counties.
The current "Integrated Guidance and Inspection Regulations on Environmental Pollutant Emission Facilities" classify air emission facilities in the province into key, general, and excellent management grades based on the number of violations, and mandate differentiated annual inspections accordingly.
In particular, key management sites are those that have committed three or more violations of related laws or improper operation of emission and prevention facilities such as non-operation of air pollution prevention facilities within the last two years, and must be inspected at least three times a year.
The main inspection items include ▲whether air emission facilities are installed or operated without permission (unreported) ▲whether the permitted (reported) details match the actual emission facilities on site.
During this special inspection, Gyeonggi Province will quickly collect pollutant samples through air pollutant sampling teams in the southern and northern parts of Gyeonggi, and verify whether harmful air pollutants are being emitted and if emission standards are being met.
For sites found in violation, strict measures such as facility improvement orders, criminal charges, and internet disclosure will be taken in accordance with relevant laws.
Kim Sang-cheol, Director of the Climate and Environment Management Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Inspection officials will directly collect pollutants emitted through chimneys after passing through air pollution prevention facilities to quickly identify businesses illegally discharging environmental pollutants," adding, "We will respond strongly to violating businesses based on law and principles."
