Seongbuk-gu Raises 1.63 Billion Won in '2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign'... 620 Million Won in Donations, 1.01 Billion Won in Goods... Love Thermometer Sharing Temperature Reaches 109 Degrees... Total 1,061 Donations, 17% (230 Million Won) Exceeding Last Year's Fundraising
Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has achieved a record-high fundraising amount of 1.63 billion KRW in the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign.’
The 2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign is a winter neighbor-helping project held annually by the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul and the Seoul Community Chest of Korea to promote a culture of sharing and assist neighbors in need. Donations and goods are used to help vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income households, people with disabilities, and single-parent families have a warm winter.
This campaign was conducted over three months starting from November 2023, during which the district raised a total of 1.63 billion KRW worth of donations and goods from 1,061 cases (620 million KRW in cash donations and 1.01 billion KRW in goods). Exceeding the initial target of 1.5 billion KRW, the district’s Love Thermometer reached 109 degrees.
A district official stated, “Despite difficult conditions such as the economic downturn and rising prices, many local businesses, organizations, and individual donors from all walks of life participated with one heart.”
Notably, various heartwarming stories emerged during this campaign. Residents who collected and sold scrap paper to donate money to help neighbors in greater need, a young person who donated six months’ salary from their newly started job, and anonymous donors who left cash and goods without revealing their names all contributed to spreading warmth in the community.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Thanks to the interest and support of Seongbuk-gu residents, we were able to achieve the highest fundraising amount ever. I sincerely thank the residents, businesses, and organization officials who willingly shared their warmth for the marginalized neighbors.”
The district plans to award commendations to those who contributed to this campaign and hang banners of appreciation at the district office and all 20 community service centers. Additionally, using the local newsletter ‘Seongbuk Sori’ and all promotional channels of the district, they will introduce all donors from the 20 neighborhoods and further spread the value of sharing.
