The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced on the 20th that the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute manually shut down the research reactor 'Hanaro.'
The commission reported that around 6:40 PM that day, a malfunction occurred in the reflector cooling system, which reflects neutrons inside the reactor.
Immediately after the incident, the commission is inspecting safety on-site at the Daejeon regional office and has dispatched experts for a detailed investigation.
Hanaro was shut down due to a malfunction in October last year and was restarted in December of the same year.
