Taean Coast Guard Officer Kim Taekyung Saves Man in His 50s with Prompt Emergency Care

A Coast Guard officer from Taean Coast Guard safely rescued a man who collapsed at a bathhouse barbershop he visited on his day off.

On the 20th, Taean Coast Guard shared the story of Sergeant Kim Taekyung (30), who is serving on the Bangje 9 patrol boat. On the afternoon of the 18th, around 2 p.m., he visited a bathhouse in Seosan, Chungnam, and witnessed a barbershop employee looking flustered and panicked.

Kim, who has been with the Coast Guard for five years, promptly reported the incident to the 119 emergency medical service and provided first aid until the paramedics arrived. When the man regained consciousness, he contacted the man’s family. He also checked the man’s condition and handed over information about the patient’s status, underlying diseases, and medication to the arriving 119 paramedics.

At the time, there were employees and customers in the bathhouse, but they were startled by the sudden situation. Kim played a crucial role by contacting the man’s family to confirm medication and underlying health conditions. It is reported that he has also served as a paramedic on site for about four years, responding to emergency rescue situations.

Thanks to Sergeant Kim’s swift first aid, Mr. A reportedly regained consciousness immediately.

The bathhouse barbershop operator expressed gratitude to the chief of the Taean Coast Guard after witnessing the active first aid and hospital transfer handled by the Coast Guard.

Sergeant Kim said, “Through regular education and training, I have learned about emergency first aid, and I just did what any Coast Guard officer should do, so I feel a bit embarrassed that this is being publicized. I will continue to strive to protect the lives and property of the public.”
